Description
This is a Barcelona Chair, originally designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in 1929. This particular example was produced by Knoll in collaboration with Gratz Industries (formerly Treitel Gratz) and features a striking combination of white leather cushions and a gold-plated steel frame—a rare and luxurious variation of the iconic modernist design. The chair was specially produced for an exhibition called “So right its wrong: the gold Barcelona chair” and has since been newly upholstered with new Knoll Barcelona cushions and straps. The frame is literally plated in 18 karat gold.
The chair measures 29.5 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 30.25 inches high, with a seat height of approximately 17 inches. This piece does show wear consistent with previous use, including scuffs and scratches on the base, while the leather upholstery looks superb. Overall, the chair is in very good condition.
