Description
In 1922/23, Gropius designed his strictly cubic director’s room in Weimar with his own designs and those of other Bauhaus members. At the center of the ensemble is Gropius’ design for a cubic armchair and sofa group, the F51 Sofa Group. The group combines voluminous upholstery with a novel supporting structure. This penetration of volume and linearity is reminiscent of Gropius’s simultaneous architectural projects.
