Description
The Kisaragi Side Chair is made of Japanese cedar. Japanese cedar is a domestic softwood. Although the company sought to take advantage of its softness and softness to the touch, it was too fragile and unsuitable for use in furniture. Kisaragi is designed using compressed straight-grained Japanese cedar. By carefully pressing the cedar wood, it became strong enough to be used as quarter-sawn wood. The dignified expression of the grain and the straight lines of the form make the living space rich and high quality. “Kisaragi” means “rehabilitation of plants and trees” in Japanese. This is the beginning of the evolution of the use of Japanese cedar wood.
The Kisaragi series was designed by industrial designer Motomi Kawakami. Kawakami established the Kawakami Design Office in 1971, specializing in product, interior, space and environmental design. His office also collaborates in local industry projects and professional education.
