Description
The body of the fine-design, Neotenic table lamp requires a complex mold to obtain its distinctive rounded shapes. In particular, the large lamp requires a six-part mold, as well as meticulous manual finishes on the ceramic before firing, a counter-gravitational dying process and receives either a shiny and smooth or a matt and powdered paint finish applied in one single confident gesture to obtain the end product. The large Neotenic table lamp puts on a show of excellence in combining both artisanal manufacturing and technique, and defies the laws of physics. The hand-blown glass conveys a soft, opaline feel that enhances the meanders of the ceramic and the quality of the light the lamp gives off. Available in two sizes, the Neotenic lamp is a chunky piece that has entered Petite Friture’s playground of libre-garde collections.
Neotenic was designed by Jumbo. Jumbo is a lighthearted design practice founded by old friends — Justin Donnelly and Monling Lee. Together, they produce objects and environments that are guided by an ongoing interest in reductivism and whimsy. As a result, Jumbo’s projects are both technical in execution and joyful in approach. The studio is a champion of “affective” design, focusing on forms, materials, and colors that delight.
