Description
This is a rare stainless steel and leather bench designed in the 1960s by Gordon Bunshaft and Davis Allen of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The design features a stainless steel frame supporting an upholstered brown leather cushion.
While we are still looking to determine exactly which building this came from, the label underneath significantly narrows the possible options. The label notes “50th Floor” and “New York” which likely places it as part of the 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza interior scope, completed in 1961.
The bench measures 24.25 inches deep, 70.25 inches wide, and 16.0 inches high. The frame shows wear consistent with previous use and age including scuffs and scratches. The bench has its original upholstery which is quite worn down from previous use. Please see photos.
